Protecting Land in the U.S. – Big Farms are Losing Ground

Something To Be Aware Of…

Right now in the United States farmers are being rewarded by the government to plant fence-row to fence-row. In other words, some government subsidized farmers are leaving no grassy land between crops and water – which not only causes serious soil erosion, but renders water undrinkable and our oceans unfit to swim in. One striking example is The Dead Zone in the Gulf of Mexico.

This video from the Environmental Working Group stresses that it’s time the US government enforces the law that requires farmers to put conservation practices in place in exchange for the billions of dollars in tax payer income and insurance subsidies they get every year from tax payers.

As is stated in the video, “Farms need a safety net, but so does our land and water.”

Federal Farm Subsidy Programs are Broken – Time for Change

We can Make a difference…

You’ve got to love Ken Cook, President of The Environmental Working Group, for being such a wise and staunch advocate for our personal health, safety and wellness. Here’s a great video of him in action at TedxManhattanChanging the Way Eat. He’s speaking about revamping the Farm Bill (of which a whoppingly large portion goes, not just to farmers, but to the 43 million Americans on Food Stamps – so this issue does affect many, many people, especially our kids, on a personal level.)

He sites instances like dead farmers getting paid subsidies (I kid you not) and the fact that out of the 4.7 million acres that are farmed in this country less than 1% of that is organic!

Dog Prays for Pals Before Each Meal

When I was about 10 years old, one day my mother took a roast out of the oven and put it on the dining  room table to cool before carving it. Then she returned to the kitchen to tend to the rest of the meal.  A few moments later, when she went back into the dining room, I heard her scream. Our dog had jumped up onto the table and dragged the roast beef  into the living room, where he was gnawing away on it… in doggy heaven. But I think he would’ve been more likely to legitimately earn his place in paradise had he been less of a glutton and more like like Honey – the (oh so cute!)  little pup in this video – who has been trained to pray before each meal, not just in gratitude for his own chow, but for all of the dogs who “don’t get a lot of food.”

I’m joining the fast – are you?

Hello Everyone!

I’m joining the fast – are you?

At the time of this writing more than 4000 people across the US have joined in solidarity in a hunger strike inspired by World Food Prize laureate David Beckmann, who presides over Bread for the World, to boycott the GOP’s devastating budget cuts to programs that assist the poor and the hungry while at the same time increasing defense spending. I believe the numbers joining in on this monumental event will be fast growing (no pun intended!) The fasting populace are particularly targeting cuts to food stamps, WIC and aid to the international poor and farmers. NY Times food columnist Mark Bittman (who’s joined in the movement) says, these supposedly deficit-reducing cuts will barely make a dent, Bittman writes, ‘they will quite literally cause more people to starve to death, go to bed hungry or live more miserably than are doing so now. And: The bill would increase defense spending.’

If you are one of the many bright Souls who are joining the fast or considering adding your name to the ranks to Protest GOP’s budget cuts to needy here is my thank you gift to you…

I have lots of experience with fasting. I’ve typically done extended fasts – for 10 days or more – at least twice a year. And I often fast at least one day a week. So I know the experience of fasting need not be debilitating and exhausting  but can actually be not only invigorating, cleansing, but centering and clarifying to the mind and opening to the heart – if done correctly.

A brief but comprehensive guide to fasting that I wrote in my book, Soul-Full Eating: A (Delicious!) Path to Higher Consciousness, my gift to you.

In solidarity,

PS – I’m just finishing up writing a very comprehensive and inspiring Mind, Body, Spirit Cleanse book. Be sure to add your name to my email list to be notified about it’s release later on this month.

Spaghetti doesn’t grow on trees… or does it!?

BBC pulled a fast one in 1957 with this April Fool’s Day broadcast, which had hungry folks calling in to see where they could get their own spaghetti tree.

Happy April Fool’s Day!

Masaru Emoto asks, “Please send your prayers of love and gratitude to water at the nuclear plants in Fukushima, Japan!”

In a call to “The people of the world” Dr. Masaru Emoto tells us that there is more that we can all do to help the dire situation in Japan than we may think…

From Dr. Emoto
By the massive earthquakes of Magnitude 9 and surreal massive tsunamis, more than 10,000 people are still missing…even now… It has been 16 days already since the disaster happened. What makes it worse is that water at the reactors of Fukushima Nuclear Plants started to leak, and it’s contaminating the ocean, air and water molecule of surrounding areas.
Human wisdom has not been able to do much to solve the problem, but we are only trying to cool down the anger of radioactive materials in the reactors by discharging water to them.
Is there really nothing else to do?
I think there is. During over twenty year research of hado measuring and water crystal photographic technology, I have been witnessing that water can turn positive when it receives pure vibration of human prayer no matter how far away it is.
Energy formula of Albert Einstein, E=MC2 really means that Energy = number of people and the square of people’s consciousness.
Now is the time to understand the true meaning. Let us all join the prayer ceremony as fellow citizens of the planet earth.   I would like to ask all people, not just in Japan, but all around the world to please help us to find a way out the crisis of this planet!!
The prayer procedure is as follows.
Name of ceremony:
“Let’s send our thoughts of love and gratitude to all water in the nuclear plants in Fukushima”
Day and Time:
March 31st, 2011 (Thursday)
12:00 noon in each time zone
Please say the following phrase:
“The water of Fukushima Nuclear Plant, we are sorry to make you suffer. Please forgive us.  We thank you, and we love you.”
Please say it aloud or in your mind. Repeat it three times as you put your hands together in a prayer position.
Please offer your sincere prayer.
Thank you very much from my heart.
With love and gratitude,
Masaru Emoto
Messenger of Water

I felt this a good time to share some  information about Dr. Emoto’s work and some other valuable facts I wrote  about water in Chapter Twenty-Four,  DO DRINK THE WATER, in my book, Soul-Full Eating: A (Delicious!) Path to Higher Consciousness.

AS PART OF MY WORK, I lead Miracle Journey Tours to sacred places all over the world. Over the past few years, we’ve visited some astounding sites in which the powerful energies present were amplified by the presence of water. In Lourdes, France, the healing waters have been flowing ever since a young girl, Bernadette, saw an apparition of the Divine Mother. This mystical figure told her to dig in an area of the dirt from which a spring of healing water began to flow. Since then, it has become one of the most visited places on earth, with more than 4 million people from all corners of the planet making pilgrimages there each year to drink and immerse themselves in the water with the intention of healing their bodies and connecting with the Divine.

In Avebury, England, there is the Chalice Well, which is fed by two springs of “living water”—one “red” with iron and the other “white” with calcium. Is it coincidence that this sacred locale is also the place where the Holy Grail is said to have been taken after it left the Holy Land? While in England, I heard there is scarcely a well of consequence that has not been solemnly dedicated to some saint.

In Brazil, waterfalls abound with delightful little energy orbs of Light evident to the trained naked eye and visible on film. There, a group of us was also touched by an amazing healer, John of God, and within “The Casa,” we drank blessed holy water to open us up to grace and facilitate healing. In India, I’ve watched village women and young girls fill their jugs with water in the dawning light at the community-well amidst chatter and smiles. Then with agile ease, they balanced the jugs on their heads as they walked home to prepare their family’s morning meal. It is evident that this hole in the ground is the village life-spring.

To me, it’s no wonder that springs and wells of water have been greatly valued in all lands and in all ages; in some, they’ve been regarded with a feeling of veneration little, if at all, short of worship.

Interestingly, water conducts energy. When our bodies are well hydrated, we feel better physically. Moreover, on subtler levels, we are also more in sync with “the flow” of life. As a mother, I found out early on that one of the best ways to soothe an inconsolable child was to place them in water. And quite often, when one of my daughters was feeling out of sorts and tired— mentally, vitally or emotionally—just offering her a big glass of water did the trick and set her straight.  Water is The Great Purifier.

Clean, fresh water is as vital to the health and survival of our bodies as it is to the survival of the planet. Our bodies, just like the earth, are made up of 65-70% water.

As I write this book, our planet is going through many changes, and water seems to be playing a powerful part in the process. Throughout the year 2005, low-lying coastal areas in various parts of the world have been affected, and in some cases devastated, by tsunamis, storms and hurricanes. Other areas have experienced unprecedented flooding due to excessive  rains. Some say it’s due to changing earth cycles and global warming, and it’s quite possible that those things are having an effect. However, could it be that these changes are also due to a factor that is less scientific and measurable and more subtle? Could it be that the Soul of our planet is calling us to a greater awareness of the need of a greater energy flow in our lives?

Whether we like it or not, the tides are “turning” and we are collectively being called to wake up to love. Through these events, a silver lining has become evident; a love has begun to flow towards areas of misfortune. These tides turned a world’s focus in many areas from consumption and selfishness to compassion. They moved love into areas that had little established connection to the great flow of the rest of humanity. Then, literally overnight, a surge of goodwill poured forth to these places.  Yes, water is The Great Purifier.

Many people are now familiar with the work of an eminent scientist, Dr. Masaru Emoto. I first heard of him in 1999 when a Japanese friend showed me his book, Messages from Water. I was so impressed with the book’s images that I immediately tried to find a copy for myself and discovered that only a limited number had been published and that it was out of print. Since then, Dr. Emoto’s work has been widely recognized, and a series of his books are now available in most any bookstore.

For those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to view the miraculous images of water that Dr. Emoto and his colleagues have captured on film, here is a brief explanation of his work. However, I must tell you that one of his pictures is worth much more than a thousand words. Dr. Emoto says that he had always wondered if there were methods of discerning the different “natures” of water. After exploring several avenues, he was inspired to freeze water molecules and then observe them under a microscope. Sure enough, it worked and he began zooming in on thousands of droplets of water, obtained from sources all over the world, to capture their molecular structure on film. What he found and documented is truly amazing, pure water when crystallized becomes pure crystal—with intricate, beautiful, symmetrically configured atoms and molecules. Contaminated water showed deformed, collapsed and warped structures. His photos of water crystals obtained from the tap water of cities all over the world is significantly different than that taken from pure, glacial, spring or sacred sources.

Dr. Emoto writes: “During the photographing, we observed the crystallization process a few thousand times. Then, strangely, we came to feel and see the crystal trying to become a ‘beautiful crystal figure’ of water, and that crystal pictures carry wonderful messages… We came to understand that these crystal pictures show ‘different faces’ of water. Water, basically, is trying hard, bravely, to be ‘Clear water! I want to be clear water!’ We felt such expression coming out from the crystals of water.”

What’s even more interesting than the differences between piped municipal water and fresh glacial spring water is that Dr. Emoto states we can change the structure of water molecules with our thoughts! When they taped a negative word like “hate” or “kill” to the container holding pure water, its molecules skewed, blurred, significantly darkened, and became asymmetrical in nature. When they taped positive words like “love” and “peace,” the molecules took on the most beautiful, delicate and complex patterns—and the same happened when they prayed over the water.

If—as Dr. Emoto’s research confirms—water is so easily affected by negative and positive energy, then it only makes sense to cultivate a conscious relationship with the water you drink and use in your daily life.

This may be more important than you think. At conception, water accounts for about 95% of the fertilized egg—in other words, it is almost all water. When we reach maturity, our bodies are 70% water. So it stands to reason that water, along with sunlight and air, influences our lives more than any other factor. We live surrounded by various kinds and aspects of water every day of our life.

Dr. Emoto’s work makes it easier to comprehend what goes on with water, and all of life, at an energetic level. Water has a mind of its own—a Divine Mind—that must flow. It is its imperative, just as your blood must flow through your heart while you are alive.

As was stated earlier, water, sunlight and air are three things that are necessary to sustain the life of a human being. Unfortunately, studies show that 75% of Americans are clinically dehydrated. It’s no wonder if you consider the foods that are being eaten. A typically consumed fast food meal at Kentucky Fried Chicken—a drum stick and thigh, a buttermilk biscuit, corn and cole slaw—contains 0 oz. of water. The same goes for the following combo at Burger King—a chicken sandwich, french fries, a strawberry shake and an apple turnover. On the other hand, a single apple contains 3 oz. of water and a salad with lettuce, cucumber, celery, avocado, and green peppers contains 1-1/4 cups of water. A diet of fresh, whole fruits and vegetables contains large amounts of water. Given the typical fast food diet, it is even more important to replenish the fluids in our bodies—not with soft drinks or other beverages, but with pure, clean water.

Can’t Always Afford to Buy Organic? It’s More Important to Buy Some Veggies Pesticide-Free Than Others. [List via Environmental Working Group]

Buying organic foods means supporting both the health of agricultural workers (the use of pesticides have been linked to cancer among some farmers and pickers) and the longterm health of our land. But it’s no secret that organic produce can often be more expensive than its conventional counterpart. Many people see organic food as a longterm investment—buying better quality food today will likely save you money on health costs down the road—but for those of us feeling a pinch in the pocket, it’s important to know that it’s more important to buy some fruits and veggies organic than others.

Below is a portion of the Environmental Working Group’s list of the 47 most-toxic produce (1 being the most toxic, either because of the amount of pesticides normally used on that particular crop, or its vulnerability to the chemicals). Whenever possible, it’s important to buy these items organic:

1. Peach

2. Apple

3. Sweet Bell Pepper

4. Celery

5. Nectarine

6. Strawberries

7. Cherries

8. Kale

9. Lettuce

10. Grapes, Imported.

11. Carrot

12. Pear

13. Collard Greens

14. Spinach

15. Potato
